How and why we use sensitive data

The use of special categories of data (i.e. personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, and the processing of genetic data, biometric data for the purpose of uniquely identifying a natural person, data concerning health or data concerning a natural person’s sex life or sexual orientation) and data relating to criminal convictions and offences merits specific protection.

We may process such information if it is relevant to the matter in which you seek our advice or representation. Our reasons and lawful basis for such processing will depend on the specific circumstances of each matter. For example, we may process:

  • data related to your and your work colleagues’ racial or ethnic origin, gender and sexual orientation, religious or similar beliefs, if instruct us on a discrimination claim and such processing is necessary for the purpose of exercising your employee rights;
  • data related to your employee’s health, if you instruct us on a matter related to employment and the processing is necessary for the purpose of obtaining legal advice or the establishment, exercise and defence of a legal claim; or
  • results of your criminal record check, on the basis of your express consent, if you instruct us to assist you in obtaining a personal licence in the area of sale of alcohol or operating a gambling business.
