Frequently Asked Questions

We know that the application process for any job can be a daunting prospect. To point applicants in the right direction, we have answered some of our frequently asked questions and asked our current and previous trainees to tell us what they would have liked to know when they applied.

When do training contract applications open?

Applications for our 2019 intake will open on Thursday 1st November 2018.

What is the deadline for applications for training contracts?

Sunday 31st March 2019

How do I apply?

Please forward a CV and covering letter to trainees@mincoffs.co.uk.

How many trainees do you take on each year?

We look to take on up to two trainees each year.

What year should I be in to apply?

Graduates should be in their final year or completing their GDL or LPC when applying for our training contract.

Can I apply if I initially studied a ‘non-law’ degree?

Yes, provided you undertake the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course prior to your contract commencing.

Can I apply if I have been working in a different line of work for a while?

Of course! Some of our current and past trainees have worked in various other industries prior to starting their training contract. We have trainees and solicitors who have worked in business, retail and even government. We welcome any previous experience, and many of our trainees who have worked in other industries would argue that their experience helps them in their current role.

Do you have a preferred GDL or LPC provider?

No.

Do you give feedback for applications?

Due to the volume of applications that we receive, we are unable to give individual feedback on applications. We will, however, provide feedback to applicants who undertake the assessment week.

Can I choose my seats?

Where we can, we will try to tailor seats to the trainee’s preferred areas of law, but this cannot always be guaranteed.

What opportunities can trainees get involved in?

Trainees are actively encouraged to engage in the firms marketing and business development activities and to attend networking events such as the Junior Lawyers Division and Young Professional Forum events.

Is there opportunity for further training?

All trainees enrol onto the Commercial Professional Skills Course at Northumbria University which is a 2 year programme, enabling you to network with trainees from other regional commercial law firms.

My question is not answered here, can I contact you?

We would be delighted to answer any more questions you may have. Please email trainees@mincoffs.co.uk and a member of the team will be happy to help.
