A Consett bar and nightclub has received approval to extend opening hours by one hour, with help from the Licensing team at Mincoffs Solicitors.

Chaplains, located on Front Street, is now permitted to serve alcohol until 4am and close at 4:30am on Fridays, Saturdays, Bank Holiday Sundays and Boxing Day.

At the hearing in Durham, owner Frank Kearney was granted the extended license subject to two conditions: the implementation of a taxi marshalling scheme; and assurance that a personal licence holder will be on the premises at all times, at the request of local police.

Matt Foster, Head of Licensing at Mincoffs Solicitors advised Kearney on the application and has assured the committee that Chaplains will continue to work closely with the police once the new hours come in to effect, but that these changes will not happen until proper policy and procedures are in place.

Kearney commented: “I am thrilled that the committee approved our extended licence application and I am prepared to work closely with the police and the local community to ensure that the new hours work for everyone.”

Matt Foster, Head of Licensing at Mincoffs Solicitors commented: “I am happy to have helped Frank with his application and am delighted with the result. The committee had a lot of confidence in Frank as a local businessman and he has made assurances that the proper policies and procedures will be in place before the new hours come into practice.”
