A pair of architects have launched their own practice after completing the buy-out of an award-winning Newcastle firm with the assistance of Mincoffs Solicitors.

George Musson and Victoria Brown have launched Musson Brown Architects, in Jesmond, after taking over Squires Barnett Architects, a practice which specialises in new homes, conversions and extensions.

George said: “Realising our ambition as a forward-thinking architecture firm is very rewarding. Victoria and I have led some award winning bespoke domestic projects and small boutique residential developments over the last few years and the time is right for the next chapter in our journey as Musson Brown Architects.”

The team of five specialise in bespoke domestic projects for private clients and boutique developers. The company is currently working on a Georgian-inspired country house in Northumberland and a contemporary new-build home in the heart of Jesmond. It has also taken on work to design a large country house in Hertfordshire.

The corporate team at Mincoffs Solicitors provided legal support to George and Victoria on their buy-out of Squires Barnett Architects.

Chris Hughes, Partner in Mincoffs’ corporate team, commented: “It is always a pleasure to work with local businesses and it has been especially rewarding to be able to assist George and Victoria on this deal. Their buy-out is a testament to the passion and dedication that they have for the work that they do, and I look forward to seeing how they take Musson Brown Architects forward.”

George added: “Our thanks to Chris at Mincoffs, who was a pleasure to work with. He was approachable, pragmatic and detailed – helping to conclude the deal swiftly and with minimal fuss”.

Squires Barnett Architects was founded in 2011 by Louise Squires and her late brother, Warren Barnett. Former Benfield Motors boss Mark Squires, Mrs Squires’ husband, joined the practice in 2016.
