Owned by the Roadside Group Ltd, the service station applied for a variation to its alcohol licence in order to extend alcohol sale hours.  The service station was previously only licensed to sell alcohol between the hours of 8.00 and 23.00 despite being open 24 hours.

The application was not objected to by the police or environmental health, nor were there any residential objections.  The application did however receive objection from a councillor and the department of public health.

Newcastle Council’s licensing applications sub-committee approved the licence at a meeting on 26th January.

Mathew Foster of Mincoffs Solicitors who represented the Roadside Group Ltd said ‘The client was challenged on the primary use of the premises but the council were satisfied that the primary use was not that of a garage and also considered, based upon evidence and our presentation, that an increase in hours would not impact upon licensing objectives.’
