My Delhi is set to open in Leeds city centre, marking its first move into Yorkshire and the introduction of its flagship restaurant.
The brand has secured a site at Hepper House on East Parade, spanning over 6,000 sq ft, thanks to legal support from the real estate team at Newcastle-based Mincoffs Solicitors.
The Grade II listed building will be transformed into My Delhi’s largest and most considered restaurant to date, with an opening planned for June 2026.
My Delhi operates restaurants in Newcastle, Sunderland and Leicester, and has built a strong presence through its take on food from the capital. The move into Leeds marks the next stage in the brand’s growth, bringing its concept to a new city.
The Leeds restaurant will centre around a main dining hall, alongside a private dining room and a cocktail-led bar. The refurbishment will include a bespoke fragrance experience within the washrooms, and a collection of traditional fixtures sourced from India, bringing together elements of heritage and a more contemporary setting.
Director Elahi Shah said: “Leeds felt like the right next step for us.
“We’ve always focused on doing things properly, and this gives us the space to take that further.
“The food remains the same at its core, but the overall experience has been taken up a level. It’s a more complete version of what we’ve been building.”
Keith Ravenhill, associate solicitor at Mincoffs Solicitors, assisted with the real estate aspects of the restaurant launch.
“We are delighted to have supported Elahi and the team as they announce the launch of a fourth restaurant in Leeds,” said Keith.
“We have worked with the team at My Delhi for a number of years now and it has been a pleasure to watch the business go from strength to strength.
“Leeds is an excellent location to position their largest restaurant yet and and we look forward to assisting with further acquisitions as the brand continues to expand.”
Food from the capital sits at the centre of the concept. The menu reflects the breadth of Delhi’s food culture, from Indo-Chinese dishes such as Cauliflower Manchurian, to tandoor cooking rooted in Old Delhi, with breads baked fresh and kebabs cooked over charcoal in the tandoor, giving them their distinctive depth and smokiness.
Alongside this, the menu features slow-cooked dishes including Emperor’s Stew, a rich nihari-style curry, as well as the Butter Chicken 1950s and 1947 Black Dal, both closely linked to their origins in Delhi.
Chef Gaurav Dayal said: “Our cooking has always come from Delhi. That hasn’t changed.
“What Leeds allows us to do is present it in a more complete way, while keeping the character of the dishes intact.”
My Delhi has received multiple industry awards, including national recognition and in 2023 became the winners of the BBC’s Britain’s Best Takeaway win.
