Emily Cannell

Emily graduated with a first class honours in law and qualified as a solicitor in 2009. She started her career at a prominent commercial law firm in her hometown and joined Mincoffs in September 2012. She was promoted to partner in July 2021.

As head of the family department, Emily has extensive experience in all aspects of family law and represents clients across the country. Her work includes advising and drafting pre and post nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements, and regularly working with the private client department to assist clients and their families with preservation of inherited wealth and gifts.

Emily advises married and non-married couples on all matters that arise on relationship breakdown with a particular strength in financial remedy. She manages a broad and complex case load, and her expertise lies in cases involving high net worth individuals, which are multi-faceted and will often involve complex business structures. She also deals with private law children matters, assisting and advising parents in dispute to resolve arrangements for children.

Considered to be unique in her field, Emily is personable, attentive and extremely talented. She is highly regarded for her care and attention, both to the case and the individual client. She is regularly commended for going above and beyond ordinary expectations and is well known for her commitment and determination in each individual matter.

Emily prides herself on a pragmatic and proportionate approach with an intelligent negotiating style and a focus on achieving an early and considered outcome for her clients. She is committed to working constructively with other lawyers to achieve an agreed resolution wherever possible but, in the cases that require it, she is known for a no nonsense, robust approach.

She is well known and well respected with a large network of professionals to call upon to provide a full service of expert advice and client care to all clients.

In her role as partner at Mincoffs, Emily has a particular interest in staff engagement and heads the firms social committee. She enjoys being involved with all social initiatives, from a charity bake sale to the firm’s Christmas party.
